I don’t even know if “Peripheral” counts as science fiction when we’re currently getting through a pandemic, there’s global unrest and climate change. The world is already warning us. So, for me, “Peripheral” is actually not a warning, but a lifeline, a hope line. You’re looking at somebody who is very relatable, and a community of friends and family who are just trying to get by in this crazy, insane, troubling, confusing world. And the way that they manage is by banding together, by keeping that humanity alive within them.
