Confidence: find what makes you feel your best, I feel like this is a great way to get to know who you are and the rest will all fall into place.

At times it feels like wellness or elevating one’s well being, is diametrically opposed to high achievement and high performance in one’s career. The stress, mental energy, long hours, lack of restful sleep and preoccupation that result from a high-achievement life seem to directly inhibit wellness. And yet, in order to sustain the creativity, flexibility, mental acuity and resilience that are necessary for high performance, wellness and wellbeing of the mind, body and soul are also mandatory. So how do we achieve both? This is the question I’m hoping to answer through conversations with high-achieving leaders and influencers who are practicing their own philosophies about how to maintain their wellbeing.
As a part of our series about “Social Media Influencers Share Their Top Self Care, Wellness, and Beauty Tips, I had the pleasure of interviewing Zara Silver.
Zara Silver is a modern and acrobatic dancer based out of Los Angeles, she just turned 18 and will be attending Hussian College this fall in Downtown L.A.
Zara has been dancing all of her life, and has always known the importance of keeping a routine that will help her grow and refine her skills.
She hopes to inspire other young dancers with her knowledge and advice, so they too can develop into their skills and community.
Thank you so much for doing this with us! Our readers would love to get to know you a bit better. Can you share with us the backstory of how you came upon this career path and to where you are today?
I started to dance on my own, it was something I always found interest in. In the beginning a lot of the techniques I learned were self taught, once I had my rhythm and skill set I was able to start working with couches and trainers. I moved from Miami to L.A. and here I’ve been taking classes and learning new routines in preparation for my first year at Hussian College where I’ll be studying dance.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?
My dance journey is something I’m very thankful for, I don’t think I can narrow it down to just one person because I’ve had so many people who have supported me and helped me along the way. That being said, my followers and supporters have been a big push for me. They’re a big inspiration to my dance journey and to think that I might be inspiring some of their futures, makes it all worth it.
Can you share a story with us about the most humorous mistake you made when you were first starting? What lesson or take-away did you learn from that?
I think this is super common when you’re in a space where you can be your own biggest critic. I would make the mistake of wanting everything to be perfect all the time when it came to dance, and now looking back at it I find it funny. Now I’m more comfortable with my mistakes and have learned to trust myself in knowing I’ll get it down, it just might not be the first few times.
As an influencer, you have been blessed with great success in a career path that many have attempted, but eventually gave up on. In fact, perhaps most people who tried to follow a career path like yours did not succeed. Do you have any words of advice for others who may want to embark on this career path but know that their dreams might be dashed?
Keep going! I know there are times when you can question why you’re doing all of this, and it’s okay to feel like that. Just remember why you even started all of this for, and keep the momentum. Staying consistent is also a big part of your own success, add that to your daily routine and like anything else you’ll start to see results.
Can you share with our readers some of the strategies you’ve used to build an engaged, loyal, and large online community?
I have just tried to showcase as much of my skills as possible. If I’ve learned new dance routines and moves that my audience and followers have asked me to try or re-create. I think a combination of me trying new things and also listening to what my followers want to see helps build our relationship.
Ok thank you for all that. Now let’s shift to the main focus of our interview. In my work, I focus on how one can thrive and care for oneself in three areas: body, mind, and heart. You are a busy person with a demanding schedule, can you share with our readers two self-care routines, practices or treatments that help your body thrive? (Kindly share a story or an example for each.)
Stretching is a vital part of my daily routine, it helps me stay flexible and limber but also clears my mind in the mornings. My day at school is packed with dance classes and practices so it’s something that always allows me to have a moment to myself.
A balanced diet is also key to my daily routine. I need to make sure I’m fueling my body with the right foods so it can handle my packed schedule of classes, meetings, dance, and just overall daily tasks. It’s crazy what good food does for the body and mind.
Can you share with us two routines that you use to help your mind or heart to thrive? (Kindly share a story or example for each.)
Taking the time to myself to breath and stretch is very important for me to thrive everyday, it keeps me focused and ready for the day. It’s vital for anyone in the dance world to feel centered with yourself so you can put your best foot forward, no pun intended.

Can you share five ideas that anyone can use “to feel beautiful”?
- Confidence: find what makes you feel your best, I feel like this is a great way to get to know who you are and the rest will all fall into place.
- Capture the moment: don’t be afraid to pull out your phone and take a picture or video when you’re feeling good about yourself or having fun with friends. It will be a good reminder of good times in the future.
- Get active: even if it’s just a walk around campus, I always feel so much better after allowing my body to feel active.
- Friendships and beyond: surround yourself with people who uplift you and empower you, because those positive relationships will always make you feel beautiful inside and out.
- Remember to laugh: I am a firm believer that laughter is the best medicine, sometimes you just have to remind yourself to enjoy the moment and let the small things go.
Is there a particular resource, a practitioner, expert, book, or podcast that made a significant impact on you and helped you to thrive? Can you share a story about that with us?
I think I saw a big change in my flexibility and acro dance skills once I started to train with my stretching and flexibility coach. He’s helped me really understand how far I can take my body when it comes to dance, give him a follow on instagram @itsbodybreaker.
Do you have a story about the strangest, most bizarre or funniest wellness treatment that you’ve ever experienced?
I haven’t really done anything too crazy when it comes to wellness treatments, I’m 18 years old so I’m mostly focusing on staying healthy and active everyday. But I once had a smoothie from Erewhon that looked and sounded so good. It was supposed to help with your skin but it ended up tasting like vinegar, yuck!
As an influencer, you are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger.
I would love to see more opportunities for young girls that are in the foster care and adoption system, to get an introduction to the dance community. It’s a great creative outlet to tap into your confiance and be surrounded by a supportive community.
We are very blessed that some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world with whom you’d like to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this. :-)
Paula Abdul would be someone I’d love to have a private lunch with, she was such a large influence in the dance world and really brought her own style to the industry. She seems like she would have a lot of amazing stories and advice for a young dancer who is trying to make an impact in the dance community.
