… Yes, I mean, all beautiful things have to have a conservatory. Let’s put it this way. There’s a great misunderstanding in America. Pop culture has enveloped all things. Pop culture is quite meaningless. It’s always ephemera. Ephemera certainly cannot be part of the civilization of art and entertainment. It must be understood that entertainment has nothing, be it Broadway, musicals, the Beatles, or any heavy metal. There is no such thing as ever ranking them within the idea of Art, music. Why should they not be composing at school? So, why aren’t they teaching this as important as money, physics, or mathematics? They can’t do anything with mathematics, but they will have an emotional edge their whole life with great music and poetry.
